You have entered your credentials, the channels are all there, and the programme guide is blank. Or it shows today but nothing beyond it, or it is populated but every programme is an hour out.
This is the second most common complaint in IPTV after buffering, and unlike buffering it is almost always trivial to fix. The EPG — the electronic programme guide — is a separate file from your channel list, downloaded separately, and nearly every fault comes from that one fact. Here are the causes in the order worth checking, whether you are on Gogotivi or anything else.
First: How Long Has It Been?
If you set up in the last ten minutes, stop and wait.
The channel list is small and arrives almost instantly. The guide is a large file covering thousands of channels across several days, and on modest hardware it can take five minutes or more to download and parse on first launch. A blank guide immediately after setup is not a fault — it is the normal state.
Leave the player open rather than closing it, because some players pause the download when the app loses focus. If it is still empty after fifteen minutes, continue down this page.
Cause 1: You Logged In With M3U Instead of Xtream Codes
This is the single most common reason for a permanently empty guide, and it catches a large proportion of people.
A plain M3U playlist is a list of channels and nothing else. It carries no programme data at all. If you logged into Gogotivi that way, your guide will never populate no matter how long you wait or how many times you refresh, because there is nothing to populate it from.
Some players let you attach a separate EPG URL to an M3U playlist, which works but is a manual step people rarely know about. The far simpler fix is to delete the playlist and add it again using the Xtream Codes API option, which pulls the guide automatically alongside the categories.
Our comparison of the two login methods explains exactly what differs. If your guide has never worked since setup, check this before anything else.
Cause 2: The Guide Needs a Manual Refresh
Players cache the EPG and re-download it on a schedule — often once every 24 hours. If the download failed once, some players will not retry until that timer expires, leaving you with a stale or empty guide in the meantime.
Every serious player has a manual refresh buried in settings. In TiviMate it sits under the EPG settings as an update option; in IPTV Smarters it is usually a refresh or reload control near the playlist. Trigger it, then wait several minutes without closing the app.
If a manual refresh fixes it once and the problem returns, look at the update interval setting and consider shortening it.
Cause 3: Wrong Time Zone
A guide that is populated but showing the wrong programmes is a different fault from an empty one, and people often report it as “the EPG is broken”.
Guide data carries timestamps, and your player converts them to local time. If the device time zone is wrong, or the player has its own EPG time-shift setting left at a non-zero value, everything appears shifted — typically by exactly one hour, which is the giveaway.
Check two places: the device's own date and time settings, ideally set to update automatically, and any time-shift or EPG offset option inside the player. If programmes are out by a clean hour, this is almost certainly it, particularly in the weeks after a daylight-saving change.
Cause 4: The Player Is Set to Load Too Little
Some players limit how many days of guide data they fetch, to save memory on constrained devices.
If you see today and tomorrow but nothing further ahead, that is a setting rather than a fault. Look for an option controlling how many days of EPG to retrieve and raise it. Be aware there is a trade-off — more days means a larger file, slower loading and more memory used, which matters on a Firestick or an older Smart TV.
Three to seven days is a sensible range for most people. Anything beyond that is rarely useful and noticeably slows the app.
Cause 5: Not Every Channel Has Guide Data
Worth setting expectations honestly, because this one cannot be fixed by you or by us.
Guide data is produced per channel and its completeness varies. Major national channels in major markets are consistently well covered across the Gogotivi lineup. Smaller regional channels, some international feeds and certain event-only channels often carry little or none. A blank entry on one obscure channel while everything else is fine is not a fault in your setup.
Some players show “No Information” for these, which reads like an error and is not. If a channel you rely on has no data, tell support — it is worth reporting rather than assuming nothing can be done.
Cause 6: Storage and Memory on the Device
The guide is a large file that has to be downloaded, unpacked and held in memory. On a device that is short of either, the process can fail silently.
This is most common on Firesticks, which ship with very little internal storage, and on older Smart TVs. Symptoms are a guide that used to work and gradually stopped, or one that loads partially and then disappears.
Clear the player's cache, delete apps you do not use, and restart the device fully rather than leaving it on standby. Our Firestick guide covers storage maintenance in detail, and the Smart TV guide covers the equivalent on Samsung and LG.
Cause 7: The Connection Dropped Mid-Download
Because the guide is a single large transfer, an unstable connection can interrupt it in a way that streaming a channel would survive.
If your network is variable, the channel list may arrive fine while the EPG fails repeatedly. Try a manual refresh over a wired connection, or at a quieter hour, and see whether it completes. If it does, the guide is not the problem — the line is, and our speed guide explains how to test that properly.
What the EPG Actually Is
Understanding this makes every fault above obvious rather than mysterious.
The programme guide is a separate file — usually XMLTV format — listing what is showing on each channel and when. It is generated centrally, updated periodically, and downloaded by your player independently of the channel list. The two things arrive by different routes and can fail independently.
That single fact explains nearly everything. Channels working while the guide is empty is not a contradiction; it is the normal signature of a guide download that has not completed. It also explains why an M3U login can give you every channel and no guide whatsoever — the playlist format has no field for programme data to live in.
It explains the size problem too. Your Gogotivi channel list is a few hundred kilobytes; several days of programme data across thousands of channels is many megabytes, and a large single download is far more fragile than a video stream that can adapt as it goes.
Why This Matters More Than It Looks
An empty guide is easy to dismiss as cosmetic, and it is not.
With 26,000 channels available, the guide is the primary way of finding anything. Without it you are scrolling channel names and guessing, which is exactly the experience that makes people conclude a large lineup is unusable. Fixing the guide frequently resolves a complaint that was described as something else entirely.
It matters most for sport, where you are looking for a specific fixture at a specific time across several possible channels. Our football season guide assumes a working guide throughout, because finding a midweek European fixture without one is genuinely difficult.
The Two-Minute Version
- Wait fifteen minutes after setup before assuming anything is wrong
- Confirm you logged in with Xtream Codes, not M3U — this is most cases
- Trigger a manual EPG refresh in the player settings
- Check the device time zone and any EPG offset setting
- Raise the number of days the player fetches
- Clear the app cache and restart the device fully
- Retry over a wired connection
Common Questions
Why does my IPTV guide only show one channel's programmes?
Usually a partial download caused by an interruption or a memory limit. Refresh the guide manually and, if it recurs, reduce the number of days fetched and clear the cache.
Does a VPN stop the EPG from loading?
It can. A VPN adds latency and reduces throughput, which makes a large single download more likely to time out. If your guide fails only with a VPN active, that is your answer — and for most subscribers a VPN is unnecessary, as our guide for viewers abroad explains.
How often should the guide update?
Once every 24 hours is typical and sufficient. More frequent updates consume bandwidth and device memory for no practical benefit.
My guide works on my phone but not my TV. Why?
Almost always device resources. Phones have more memory and faster storage than a streaming stick or a Smart TV, so the same guide file that loads instantly on a handset can fail on a television.
Can I use my own EPG source?
Most players allow a custom XMLTV URL. It is worth doing only if you have a specific reason, since the guide supplied through Xtream Codes is matched to your channel list and a third-party source frequently is not.
Is an empty guide a sign of a bad provider?
Rarely. In our experience the overwhelming majority of Gogotivi reports come down to an M3U login, a stale cache or a device short on memory. Check those three before drawing conclusions about anything else.
Do I need to refresh the guide manually every day?
No. Once it is working, the player handles updates on its own schedule. A manual refresh is a repair tool rather than routine maintenance, and if you find yourself needing it daily something else is wrong — usually memory or an unstable connection.
If It Still Will Not Load
Message support with three details: your device, your player, and whether you logged into Gogotivi with Xtream Codes or M3U. Those three answers identify the cause almost every time, and you can reach the team through the contact page.
It is also worth saying which of the steps above you have already tried. Support can skip straight past them, and you avoid being asked to restart a device you restarted twenty minutes ago.
If you have not subscribed yet and want to see how a properly populated guide behaves on your own hardware, a free trial takes no card details. What a Gogotivi subscription includes is set out on the homepage.
