TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters Pro: Which IPTV Player Should You Use?

TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters Pro: Which IPTV Player Should You Use? — Gogotivi IPTV

These two players account for the overwhelming majority of IPTV viewing, and the arguments about which is better usually miss the point. They are not really competing for the same job.

The short version: TiviMate has the better interface and runs on roughly half the devices you own. IPTV Smarters Pro runs on nearly everything and is merely fine. Which of those matters more depends entirely on what you watch on, which is why a single winner does not exist. Both connect to a Gogotivi subscription the same way, so switching between them costs nothing but a few minutes.

Where Each One Runs

Start here, because it eliminates the debate for a lot of people before it begins.

  • TiviMate: Android TV, Fire TV and Firestick, Android phones and tablets. That is the list. There is no iOS version, no version for Samsung Tizen, and none for LG webOS.
  • IPTV Smarters Pro: Android and Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone and iPad, Apple TV, Windows, Mac, and some Smart TV platforms.

If you watch on an iPhone, an Apple TV, or a Samsung or LG television, TiviMate is simply not available and the decision is made for you. If you watch on a Firestick or an Android box, you have a genuine choice — and that is where the rest of this page applies.

The Programme Guide

This is TiviMate's decisive advantage and the reason most people who can run it do.

Its EPG is fast, dense and laid out like a television guide rather than a phone app. You can scroll forward through the schedule without the interface fighting you, the current programme is obvious at a glance, and the whole thing was clearly designed by somebody who uses a remote control.

IPTV Smarters shows the guide too and it works, but the layout is more cramped, loading feels slower on modest hardware, and navigating several hours ahead is more effort than it should be. If you use the guide to decide what to watch rather than just to confirm what is on, the difference is noticeable within a day.

Channel Management

With 26,000 channels available, how a player organises them stops being a cosmetic question.

TiviMate lets you build favourites easily, reorder them, hide entire groups you will never watch, and maintain more than one list. On a large lineup this is the difference between a usable television and an overwhelming one, and it is worth the ten minutes it takes to set up.

IPTV Smarters supports favourites and hiding categories as well. It is competent rather than pleasant — the controls are buried deeper, and reordering is fiddlier. For a household that watches fifteen channels, this hardly matters. For someone who wants a curated list across several countries, TiviMate wins clearly.

Interface and Remote Control

TiviMate was built for a D-pad. Every action is reachable without hunting, the on-screen elements are sized for a television viewed from a sofa, and channel switching is quick.

IPTV Smarters originated as a mobile app and it shows. On a phone or tablet that is an advantage — the touch interface is genuinely better than TiviMate's. On a television with a remote, it feels like a phone app that has been stretched, with small targets and more presses to get anywhere.

This is the cleanest way to think about it: TiviMate is a television app, IPTV Smarters is a phone app that also runs on televisions.

Playback and Stability

Honestly, there is very little between them. Both handle Xtream Codes properly, both offer hardware and software decoding, and both let you adjust the buffer.

That last setting matters more than the choice of player. Raising the buffer one increment trades a second of delay before playback starts for a reservoir of video that absorbs brief network interruptions — and it is available in both. If your streams stutter, the player is rarely the cause; our buffering guide works through what actually is, in the order worth checking.

Both also reconnect reasonably well after a network blip, provided you logged in with Xtream Codes rather than an M3U link.

Cost

IPTV Smarters Pro is free. TiviMate has a free version and a paid premium tier, sold as either a one-off unlock or a subscription depending on where you buy it.

The free TiviMate is usable but limited — a single playlist, and the recording and scheduling features are held back. For most households the free version covers what they need, and the premium unlock is worth it mainly if you want recordings or multiple playlists.

Neither cost is connected to your Gogotivi subscription. You are paying an app developer for software, not paying us twice, and our pricing is unaffected either way.

Recording and Catch-Up

This is the clearest functional gap between them, and it decides the question for a certain kind of viewer.

TiviMate's premium tier includes recording and scheduled recording, so you can set a programme to capture the way a cable box would. Combined with the seven-day catch-up window a Gogotivi subscription already provides, that covers most of what people miss about a PVR. It is genuinely useful for anyone following sport across timezones, where the fixture you want finishes at four in the morning.

IPTV Smarters has catch-up support where the service provides it, but no comparable recording function. If recording matters to you and you are on a supported device, that alone settles it.

Multiple Playlists

Relevant if you hold more than one subscription, or if a household splits its viewing across separate logins.

TiviMate's premium tier handles several playlists cleanly, switching between them without reconfiguring anything. IPTV Smarters supports multiple logins too, though moving between them is clumsier.

For most households running a single Gogotivi subscription this is irrelevant, and it is not worth paying for on its own.

What Neither of Them Does

Worth setting expectations, because both get blamed for things outside their control.

  • Neither fixes a weak connection. A player can buffer more aggressively; it cannot manufacture bandwidth. If streams stutter on both, the problem is elsewhere.
  • Neither changes what channels you get. The lineup comes from your subscription. Switching player will not add or remove a single channel.
  • Neither repairs a bad stream. If one channel misbehaves while everything else is fine, that is a single feed having a bad night — try the alternate feed instead of reinstalling anything.
  • Neither rescues underpowered hardware. A five-year-old Smart TV or a first-generation streaming stick will feel slow whichever app is running on it.

Setting Up Either One With Gogotivi

The process is effectively identical, which is why switching is so cheap.

  1. Install the player — from the Play Store on Android and Android TV, from the App Store on Apple devices, or via Downloader on a Firestick for TiviMate
  2. Open it and choose to add a playlist
  3. Select Xtream Codes API, never M3U
  4. Type the server URL, username and password from your Gogotivi welcome message
  5. Wait for the channel list and programme guide to finish loading — a few minutes on first run is normal
  6. Turn on hardware decoding and raise the buffer one increment
  7. Build a favourites list before deciding whether you like it

That last step matters more than people expect. Judging either player against 26,000 unsorted channels is judging it at its worst.

The Verdict by Device

  • Firestick or Fire TV: TiviMate. Not close. Our Firestick guide covers installing it, since it is not in the Amazon Appstore.
  • Android TV box: TiviMate, straight from the Play Store.
  • Android phone or tablet: IPTV Smarters. The touch interface is better suited.
  • iPhone, iPad or Apple TV: IPTV Smarters, or GSE Smart IPTV. TiviMate does not exist here.
  • Samsung or LG television: IPTV Smarters or Smart IPTV — see the Smart TV guide.
  • Windows or Mac: IPTV Smarters for regular viewing, VLC for quickly testing credentials.

The Complaints You Will See About Each

Both have detractors, and the criticisms are worth knowing because most of them are avoidable rather than inherent.

TiviMate. The usual grievances are that the free version is too limited, that the premium tier moved to a subscription model, and that installing it on a Firestick requires sideloading. The first two are fair — it is a paid app dressed as a free one. The third is a five-minute job covered in our Firestick guide, not a real obstacle.

IPTV Smarters. The recurring complaints are a cluttered interface on television screens, occasional sluggishness on older hardware, and confusion caused by several similarly-named apps existing. That last one is genuine — search results throw up variants, and installing the wrong one produces a bad first impression that gets blamed on the subscription rather than the app.

Neither complaint set touches stream quality, which is the thing people usually assume is at stake. Playback comes from your Gogotivi subscription and your connection; the player decides how pleasant the surrounding experience is.

Switching Costs You Nothing

Worth stating plainly, because people treat this decision as more permanent than it is.

Your Gogotivi credentials are not tied to any player. Install a different one, enter the same server URL, username and password, and you are running. Nothing about your subscription changes, nothing needs reissuing, and you can keep both installed and use whichever suits the moment.

That portability is a deliberate consequence of the service being delivered as an Xtream Codes subscription rather than a branded app. It also means a player going downhill after an update is an inconvenience rather than a problem — you move, and everything else stays as it was.

The One Setting That Matters More Than Either

Whichever you install, choose Xtream Codes API at login rather than M3U.

An M3U link gives you a flat, ungrouped channel list with patchy guide data. People then blame the player for an experience the login method caused. Xtream Codes pulls categories and the full programme guide automatically, keeps on-demand content separate, and recovers better when the connection stutters. It takes no longer to set up, and it matters more than the choice between these two apps.

The other habit worth keeping: type your credentials rather than pasting them. A trailing space copied out of a message is the single most common cause of a rejected login.

Try Both

The genuinely useful answer is that you can install both this evening and decide with your own hands, on your own television, in about twenty minutes. Neither locks you in and neither costs anything to try.

If you have not subscribed yet, a free trial takes no card details and lets you test both players against real channels. Our device guide covers every other platform, and the Gogotivi homepage sets out what a subscription includes.
