Almost nobody knows what they pay for television. The bill is split across a cable package, three or four streaming apps, and a sports add-on that renews quietly every month, so the total never appears anywhere in one place. This article does the arithmetic, then sets the result against a single Gogotivi subscription.
A note on the numbers. Only the Gogotivi figures below are exact — they are our published prices. Everything else varies by country, by promotional period and by how hard you are willing to negotiate, so those are described as ranges rather than invented precision. Substitute your own bills as you read; the shape of the answer rarely changes.
Step One: Find the Real Total
Work through this list with your bank statement open rather than from memory. The gap between what people estimate and what they actually pay is routinely a factor of two.
- The base TV package. Whatever the line item on your cable or satellite bill says, before add-ons.
- Equipment rental. Box rental, second-room boxes, and any service fee that is really rental under another name.
- The sports tier. Usually the largest single add-on, and often billed separately from the base package.
- Streaming subscriptions. All of them, including the one bundled with a phone contract and the one somebody signed up for during a single series.
- Pay-per-view. Not monthly, but for combat sports fans this is frequently the largest annual line of the lot.
Multiply the monthly items by twelve, add the pay-per-view, and you have a genuine annual number. For most households that have not audited it recently, it lands somewhere between several hundred and well over a thousand.
Step Two: The Comparison
Gogotivi is sold in three terms, covering a single simultaneous stream:
- 3 months — $35, which is $11.67 a month
- 6 months — $49, which is $8.17 a month
- 12 months — $69, which is $5.75 a month
The annual term is $69 for the year. That is the number to hold against the total you just calculated, and for most people the comparison is not close — an annual plan frequently costs less than a single month of the arrangement it replaces.
Two honest caveats. A multi-person household is not comparing against $69, because it needs more streams: the 2-connection annual tier is $115 and the 3-connection is $162. And a household that watches very little television has less to save, for the obvious reason that it was not spending much to begin with.
Where the Saving Actually Comes From
It is worth understanding why the gap is so wide, because cheaper on its own should make anybody suspicious.
Traditional providers carry costs that have nothing to do with delivering video to you: physical infrastructure, installation crews, hardware, retail presence, and rights negotiated market by market. Streaming services carry a different burden — original production, which is enormously expensive and paid for by subscribers whether they watch any of it or not.
The other half of the answer is bundling. Fragmentation is not an accident; it is the business model. Every competition that moves to its own platform creates another subscription, and the total is designed to be uncomfortable to add up. A single catalogue removes that structure entirely.
The Things Money Does Not Measure
Cost is the easiest axis to compare and not always the one that should decide it.
- In favour of consolidating: one login instead of six, one channel list, one place to look. The overhead of remembering which service carries which fixture disappears, and plenty of subscribers rate that above the money.
- Against: your internet becomes the single point of failure. Satellite does not care that somebody upstairs started a large download. If your connection is unreliable today, fix that before switching anything.
- Also against: a 26,000-channel list is genuinely unwieldy for the first week. It becomes usable once you build a favourites list, but that is ten minutes of work nobody warns you about.
